Participation in youth sports can have many benefits for children. Being involved in sports creates opportunities for learning both physical and social skills. Children can also learn a number of moral skills including the values of treating their peers with respect and understanding differences. Life-long skills such as discipline, perseverance and teamwork are taught by volunteer coaches to help children develop a sense of self-worth, help them set personal goals and help them discover their abilities.
Youth ages 3-5 years old are offered an age developmentally appropriate introductory sports program. This six week program prepares children for organized sports in a fun, non-threatening environment--without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Age appropriate equipment is used to teach children in this parent-child instructional program where parents assist with instruction. This course will teach parents the proper way to develop appropriate sport skills with their children while building their confidence which will enable them to enjoy participation in organized sports. Start Smart is offered three times each year: Winter Basketball, Spring Baseball & Fall Soccer.
